H.E. Lhatse Tulku Rinpoche

A welcome to all!

His Eminence Lhatse Wöntrül Pema Rigdzin Rinpoche is the current throne holder of the
Lhatse Monastery. Born into the noble Lhatse clan, he was recognized from a young age as
an emanation of Guru Padmasambhava. Under the supreme guidance of his root gurus, His
Holiness Penor Rinpoche and Khenpo Jigme Puntsok, Lhatse Tulku Rinpoche has mastered
the Nyingma tradition's profound teachings, including the precious Dzogchen instructions of
the Palyul lineage. Receiving from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche the crown of Vajra Master,
he has become a source of blessing and wisdom for countless Dharma students all over the
world. To meet with and receive empowerments and blessings from such a lama is a rare gift,
opening doors to a mandala of possibilities the benefits of which are incalculable.

For those who have perhaps not experienced this tradition, these initiations provide an
opening into one’s true nature that is beyond measure, and indeed the best possible entrance
into the magnificent Nyingmapa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

Those wishing to go deeper into the practise of the Vajrayana, will welcome the blessing
power of teachings and empowerments bestowed by such an accomplished master.

On this retreat Lhatse Tulku Rinpoche has kindly agreed to our request to confer the
empowerments of Vajrasattva - Minling Dorsem, Guru Rinpoche - Rigdzin Düpa, and Yeshe

Tsogyal - Yumka Dechen Gyalmo. Rinpoche will also give teachings on those practices, and
will also teach the Preliminaries of Longchen Nyingtik, which enable you to truly enter the
Vajrayana path.

VAJRASATTVA - Minling Dorsem,

From the lineage of Minling Terchen Gyurme Dorje

The practice of Vajrasattva is central to Vajrayana Buddhism, and Minling Dorsem is considered the pinnacle of all Vajrasattva practices. This profound ritual purifies and transforms the practitioner's mind and is esteemed for its ability to remove obstacles and accumulate immense merit. Minling Dorsem is the first sadhana in the in the Rinchen Terdzö since Vajrasattva is the pervader of all mandalas. This terma was given by to Minling Terchen Gyurmed Dorje (1646 - 1714), also known as Terdak Lingpa, by Dharma Protectress Ekajati in person.

GURU RINPOCHE - Rigdzin Düpa,

From the lineage of Longchen Nyingtik

The cycle of teachings and revelations known as "Longchen Nyingtik" (Innermost Essence of Longchenpa) was revealed by Rigdzin Jikme Lingpa (1730-1798) and it is one of the most widespread cycles of teaching within the Nyingmapa tradition. The first sadhana of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle is the Gathering of Vidyadharas (Rigdzin Düpa). The main deity is the Lotus-Born, Padmasambhava. He is in union with his consort Mandarava and surrounded by the eight great vidyadharas of India and the twenty-five disciples. As such, it is the empowerment into the "Guru", the main one of the Three Roots - Guru, Yidam and Dakini.

YESHE TSOGYAL - Yumka Dechen Gyalmo,

From the lineage of Longchen Nyingtik

The empowerment and teachings of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo (Queen of Great Bliss), which is Yeshe Tsogyal, is part of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle, as is Rigdzin Düpa. These teachings were revealed by Rigdzin Jikme Lingpa and represent the Dakini empowerment, the third of the Three Roots. Yeshe Tsogyal’s  legacy endures across the Tibetan Buddhist world, where she is revered as an enlightened being, the spiritual mother and the most significant female master.

Longchen Nyingtik Preliminaries,

According to the text of Yukhok Chatralwa Chöying Rangdrol

Ngöndro is a series of preliminary practices in Tibetan Buddhism that prepare practitioners for the more advanced meditation techniques. These foundational exercises are designed to purify negative karma, accumulate merit, and prepare the practitioner's mind for higher spiritual teachings, all under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Rinpoche will teach the Ngondro practices of the Longchen Nyingtik cycle, relying on the text by Yukhok Chatralwa Chöying Rangdrol (1872 – 1952).

site and practicalities

Spirit Horse Mountain Retreat is set amongst wild woods, deep gorges, waterfalls and rivers.

Unique earthy architecture developed there offers a delightful immersion in natural beauty.

Some modern comforts must be left behind and some deeper ones embraced to visit there is to see something both ancient and new and revelatory.

There have been summer camps since 1991 honouring the profound traditions of Padmasambhava including a ten day visit in 2000 of HH Khordong Terchen Tulku Chimed Rigdzin Rinpoche.

General List of what to bring

Sleeping bag and/or duvet, pillow and anything else you need to be cosy and warm at night. We provide comfortable foams on the floor of the lodges, tipis and roundhouses. Sleeping space is shared or you can bring a tent. There is plenty of room in our lodges but visitors are welcome to bring their own tents if they so wish and set up on our camping meadow along the river. We also have private Yurts which can be hired.

Boots

Wellingtons are useful here in wildest Wales in all seasons. Outdoor shoes of some sort.

Warm Clothes

Even in summer the weather can change quickly. An extra layer close to the skin can make a big difference to your comfort.

"There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes"

Torch

Essential. Lots of narrow paths through the forest and dingles, no lighting, long evenings...

Tent

Everyone is welcome to bring their own tent (or camper van but see below about vehicle access) this guarantees you some private space and storage.

Pure spring water

We have our own supply of completely unadulterated water that is freely available all around the village.

Other useful items

Remember we are in a remote location so stock up on treats like tobacco, chocolate, wine before you come. It is not so easy to nip off to a shop for these things. A flask for hot drinks and hot water bottles can be good too.

How to get Here:

Detailed directions will be given upon booking for all, whether you are arriving by train or car. We are located 15 minutes from the small village of Llanbrynmair, Powys, Wales.

If you are arriving from over seas, the closest airports are London, Manchester and Birmingham. There is a Train from Birmingham to Aberystwyth, and the stop you need to get off at is called Caersws. We will send a driver to pick you up from Caersws, MAKE SURE TO EMAIL US if you require a pick up from Caersws station. If you fly into London, you will first need to get the train to Birmingham. If you fly into Manchester, then you will need to get the train to Shrewsbury, then from there to Caersws.

This journey can be done on one train ticket, you will only need a ticket to Caersws. This one ticket will be valid for each train you need to take to get to Caersws.
